Dropbox

24/04/2010

I have recently discovered Dropbox and what a fabulous discovery. It backs up all your files online. So no need to carry around pen drives, hard disks etc or even worry about your computer crashing.

And guess what? If you are happy with a 2GB storage level….it’s FREE.

The benefits include:

  1. never loose a file again
  2. back-up is offsite, so if your house or premises burn down, you are safe.
  3. if you have 2 or more computers, you can keep them all synchronised by loading Dropbox on both computers.
  4. travel around the world with no computer, or disks. Use a friend’s computer or internet café, log onto your account and work away. Or if you are a “proper techie” access the files from your Smartphone.

Got the idea?

To get going, all you do is:

  • Visit from www.dropbox.com
  • Enter your details
  • Go to download page and click away
  • And now your computer is linked to your Dropbox account
  • Click on the Desktop icon and a box opens
  • Drag files into the box…and it synchronises everything for you. This may take a while. It all depends on the size of the files.

Now when you work on a file, you access it from the Dropbox folder. It automatically saves the document, quietly working away in the background. I like fuss free.
